The boat is:
Scram, launched in June 2006, is a 55 foot Sloop, a cruiser racer constructed with advanced composite. She has a southern spar carbon fiber fractional rig. She is vacume bagged, female moulded and post-cured, built using SP systems epoxy. She displaces 11,600 KG dry. Her beam is 4.3, her draft is 2.8 meters. She has a lightweight cored cherry interior. The styling and construction was done by Rocket Marine in Cape Town, and the design was done by Simonis-Voogd. Andre Watson, her captian is part owner of the boat and MD-owner of Rocket Marine. Everything on the boat is custom fabricated by Watson. The boat incorporates a lot of auto styling, giving the boat a very fast and sleek appearance. This was acheived without compromising on the ergonomics. The concept of this vessel was to incorporate catamaran-like cockpit space on a monohull platform and yet retaining luxury spacious interior accomodations. She is on her way to Stellendam in Holland. Watson, the builder and captain is taking her there to market the capabilities of Rocket Marine in Cape Town. The Scram was designed more as a mostly a downwind sailor, but coming up to St. Helena in strong headwinds, she has proven to sail very well on all points of sail, particularly into a headwind.
